Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

"The world is so full of a number of things, I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings", was one of my grandmother's favorite remarks as she urged her grandchildren on to new adventures, or chided us for acting bored.

Certainly, if they had been around in her day, Grandmother would have been fascinated with digital cameras. Unfortunately, she would probably have been as baffled as many people are with the varied opportunities wrapped up in that little black box, but the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center has a cure for that bafflement. A course in digital photography will be available at the center in the near future. The class will be limited to 8 people, so, if you want to be one of them, you might want to call (727) 462-6138 and get your name on the list. The 15-hour course will be taught in 3-hour segments over a time period of 5 weeks. Cost for the course will be $75 with a recreation card or $56 with a play pass. This will be an excellent opportunity to really concentrate on getting the most out of your camera.

They will soon have Pilates classes at the rec center also. They will be at 9:30 on Monday mornings, a great way to start the week off right. Check with the center, or keep an eye on this column to find out the exact date.

Already on deck at the rec center is the personal trainer, ready to help you make the most out of your exercise. Call (727) 462-6138 for the details.

While you're there you might want to go next door to the Clearwater Beach Library and find a book, or a movie, to unwind with after all that energetic brain and/or body exercise. Furthermore, if you still have energy left, you could always volunteer to spend an hour or two helping our, currently very busy, librarian as she helps the increased numbers of library users with their search for knowledge, or entertainment.
