Email to the Largo Mayor and CommissionersDear Commissioners: Thank God at least Commissioners Murray and Holmes have some common sense. How can you even consider spending that much money for artwork knowing the state of our economy? This is insanity! Holmes has it right, if this is a community center let the community participate in its esthetic enhancements. We like the idea of making it into a semi-gallery type venue. Sounds very intriguing but I'd like to add knowing the Parks Department will be looking for additional revenue if wisdom prevails and you do indeed make it into a semi-gallery, allow the artists to sell their works but with the Department getting a commission on all the sales. I'd call that a win-win-win; center gets decorated (and saves $100,000.00) with a constantly changing internal landscape, artist can make a few dollars plus get exposure and the Parks Dept. can make a few dollars. Lastly the mayor's less than charitable comments about "amateur art" is borderline insulting. Who made the mayor the ultimate judge of what is or is not art? Just like the TV and movie critics it's in the eye of the beholder...but the $100,000 is out of our pockets.
Thank you,
