Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisYou heard the story about the grandmother who was not interested in having a modem on her computer, thank you. What she knew about the modem was that it would let the outside world into her computer and she was afraid that would include a virus. When her computer savvy son informed her that she needed it if she was going to send and receive e-mails from him while he lived in Europe, she still refused. "Old fashioned letters were good enough for your father and me, they'll just have to be good enough for you," she stated. "Well," he responded, "Julia is already sending e-mail on her computer."All that is to invite you to "go digital" and find out some of the benefits of being up on technology. If you've been avoiding going digital in the photography department because you aren't sure you can figure out all the bells and whistles on the new cameras, plan now to be one of the eight people to sign up for the new digital photography course coming to the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center in the near future. Just stop by, or give them a call at (727) 462-6138 for more information and to put your name in the pot. More technical training will soon be available through the Library when the program, in which volunteers will help individuals with their questions about their computer programs, gets underway. We'll let you know, right here at Recs And Reads, as soon as it is finalized. Meantime, on these cold and rainy days you don't have to watch the TV wasteland stuff. You can check out books or movies at the Beach Library and educate, or entertain, yourself until it's time to go back to the beach. Happy Valentine's, Y'all.
