Participate In The Adopt-A-Street ProgramCLEARWATER - As the weather warms up, the Public Services department encourages Clearwater businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and individuals to get involved in the Adopt-a-Street program. This initiative encourages groups, individuals, and families to adopt an area of roadway that is about one mile in length for litter control every other month. Registered participants have removed more than 650 pounds of litter from the rights-of-way within the last six months. Groups will sign an agreement to adopt a city street, parkway, or right-of-way for two years with a renewal option, and will make a commitment to clean the sides of the adopted stretch every other month. "Adopting a street promotes community pride by showing residents, tourists, and potential businesses that the community is active, energetic, and cares about a clean, safe environment," said Muhammad Abdur-Rahim, Stormwater Maintenance Manager. To participate, call the Public Services department for program guidelines, procedures, and a contract agreement. The program application fee is $10, and adopters pay $25 for each roadway sign to help offset costs. To learn more, call (727) 562-4950 ext. 7207 or visit www.myclearwater.com.
