Take Your Best Friend For A WalkLace up your walking shoes, get your best friend's leash, and join Southeastern Guide Dogs' Walkathon, February 27th, at the MOSAIC arena at the Manatee County Fairgrounds. It's a wonderful day full of fun, fellowship, and fundraising for a great cause. This is the school's largest annual fundraiser and this year promises to be the best yet! There will be music, entertainment, and a barnburner of a raffle featuring a top prize of $10,000! Other prizes include travel packages, a flat screen TV, and unique, one-of-a-kind dog items. The event also features blindfold walks and trainer demonstrations throughout the morning. Your dog should be up-to-date on shots and happy to see other people and other dogs, and, please, no flexi-leashes. Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for children, and $5 for non-program dogs. Pre-registration is available online at www.guidedogs.org/walkathon, or you can register the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m. The walk starts at 8:30 a.m., and is three miles long. Southeastern Guide Dogs breeds, raises and trains guide dogs for people with visual impairments. Students live on Southeastern's beautiful, 23-acre campus for 26 days, training with their new dogs. After graduating, they return to lives now full of new opportunities, independence, and increased mobility. For more information, visit www.guidedogs.org or call Patsy, French Director of Development and Communications, at (941) 729-5665 (office) or (941) 725-0571 (mobile). Our mission is to create and nurture a partnership between a visually impaired individual and a guide dog, facilitating life's journey with mobility, independence, and dignity.
