
Learn About Wildlife Investigations At Brooker Creek PreserveThe culprits are long gone. All that remains are footprints and certain other evidence. What can you tell about animal activity in an area from just a few clues? Join the wildlife "investigators" at Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center as they take participants behind the scenes to decipher animal activity on a Wildlife Scene Investigators Hike. Collect evidence that tells the story of wild land creatures, and profiles the daily drama of an animal's life as it searches for food and shelter. The hike takes place on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. This free activity is recommended for ages 8 and up. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are a must; water and a hat are recommended. Pre-registration is required by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26. Managed by the Pinellas County Department of Environmental Management's Environmental Lands Division, Brooker Creek Preserve protects more than 8,000 acres of natural ecosystems and is located at 3940 Keystone Road in Tarpon Springs. The horse trails and Friends Trail are open daily and holidays. Boardwalks and trails next to the Environmental Education Center are open Thursday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to one hour before sunset. The preserve is closed Monday through Wednesday and holidays. Located in the preserve, the Environmental Education Center welcomes visitors Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The center closes Sunday through Wednesday and holidays. The center features interactive exhibits and 22 discovery-oriented experiences that are fun for the entire family. It offers a wide range of programs and events for people of all ages.
