Register Your Child for "Every Child a Swimmer"

DUNEDIN - Every summer we hear of tragedies across the nation of yet another young life lost in a neighborhood pool, lake, beach or other body of water. To help prevent such accidents from occurring, the City of Dunedin Parks and Recreation Department has teamed up with Dunedin Fire Rescue and the Kiwanis Club of Dunedin to host the 2nd Annual "Every Child a Swimmer" program.

"Every Child a Swimmer" allows children between age five and eleven that are non-swimmers to participate in free swim lessons. Registration and swim tests are March 23rd and March 25th. Official classes start April 5th, with an educational session for parents and children hosted by Dunedin Fire Rescue. Two class times are offered, with one at 4:30 p.m. and one at 5:30 p.m. All classes are held at Highlander Pool in Dunedin, located at 1934 Ed Eckert Drive, which is just off Michigan Boulevard and west of the Dunedin Community Center.

Due to such popular demand with last year's class, the program has also expanded to include three and four year old children with the "Every Child a Swimmer - Little Guppies." This program, also designed for the non-swimmer, is designed to teach both parent and child in a fun and educational setting. Registration for the "Little Guppies" program is April 22nd from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., with classes starting on May 1st.
