Photo by SANDI FAHY The recent standard flower show at Clearwater Garden Club headquarters was a team effort involving two clubs--the Bay Bouquet Garden Club of Dunedin and the Clearwater Garden Club. Theme of the show, which was open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m. on March 19 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 20, was "Along the Intracoastal". Jean Columbo (CGC) and Ruth Smith (BBGC) were event co-chairs. The Designer's Choice Award went to Dorothy Bornemann (CGC). Sue Jones (BBGC) took home the Tri-Color Award. The top award for table artistry was presented to Marsha Clark (CGC) and the winner of the Award for Horticultural Excellence was Phyllis Bowles (BBGC). Ruth Smith (BBGC) received recognition in the Grower's Choice category. Bowles and Liz Buchanan (CGC) were recipients of Horticultural Awards of Merit. There were three educational exhibits which were not judged. They were "Unexpected Treasures" by Marilyn Harrity (BBGC); "By The Sea" by Elizabeth France and Flavia Mersmann (CGC); and "Florida's Birds/Wildlife Along the Intracoastal" by the Jr. Gardeners from St. Cecelia Interparochial School in Clearwater. Griselda Nunez (CCG) received an Appreciation Award for her work with the Jr. Gardeners Program. Appreciation Awards were also presented to Harrity and France. Show coordinators included Marsha Clark (CGC), schedules; Laura Daniel (CGC), stage design; Lois Finn, Marilyn Harrity and Frances Fowler (BBGC), horticultural staging; Marion Crane (CGC) and Sue Jones (BBGC), judges; Caroline Kaufmann (CGC), special awards; Alice Jarvis (CGC) show awards; Cathy Foley (CGC) hospitality; and Dona Leach (CGC), reception. Leach organized the Friday evening reception which was held in conjunction with the show. |
