North Pinellas Junior Civitans are Tops
Luke Severn, President of the North Pinellas Junior Civitan Club, is awarded at the Junior Civitan District Convention. At the March 19 - 21 joint Civitan District Meeting and Junior Civitan District Convention, the North Pinellas Junior Civitan Club, sponsored by the Clearwater Civitan Club, was tops in awards. Luke Severn, president of the North Pinellas Junior Civitan Club, was called forward eight times to receive awards for his club. The awards ranged from fellowship to volunteering, alongside their sponsoring Clearwater Civitan Club in community service. Their service to the elderly, handicapped, and hospital bound children; the leadership training sessions they attend; and their fundraising to support their own activities, and to support the Civitan International Research Center, combined to name them the Outstanding Junior Civitan Club in the under 30 members category of the Florida District of Civitan. Cathy Rocco, one of the earliest Juniors during the club's inception, was named Outstanding Junior Civitan in that category. The award ceremonies were planned and carried out through the Florida District Junior Civitan Officers under the leadership of Florida District Junior Civitan President, Matthew Pendleton from Jacksonville, and with the guidance of Florida District Junior Civitan Coordinator, Debbie White from Clearwater. This combined Civitan Meeting and Junior Civitan Convention created more interactions of the club members, but it also allowed for separate business sessions, elections, and educational programs. Two hundred Civitans and Junior Civitans were in attendance at this meeting at the Doubletree Resort in Orlando.
