Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisIt seems just a few days ago we were grumbling about how cold it was staying and how wet, but wait - is that a drop of perspiration on your brow? Nevermind, the Clearwater Beach Recreation Center pool, the fun looking one, over there on Mandalay Avenue, is going to have longer hours, starting April 19th. On Monday through Friday, it will be open from Noon to 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday it will be from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Furthermore, after hours, you can rent the pool, plus life guards with fun and games for the little ones if you like, so you and your friends can party with ease. All you do is bring the food and the people. This year they've added "Aqua Zoomba" to the schedule. That's a combination of dance and exercise to Latin music, now done in the water, at the pool. Stayed tuned for when this starts, probably in a couple of weeks. At the most recent meeting of the Friends of the Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center, there was celebration of the funds from the recent Treasures Sale and exciting plans to do some programs for the youngsters this summer. The digital photography class will get underway as soon as they have a sufficient number of people signed up to go. If you are interested, add your name to the list by calling (727) 462-6138. This week is the last of the season for the Butts and Gutts program, but Jewels, who directs the class, will be back in the fall with a new program for all you exercise enthusiasts. In the meantime, the Center now has a personal trainer to help you keep in shape during the summer. Call the Center to sign up for this special service. Remember, life is better if you keep reading and keep moving and keep loving. The Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center are here to help you with the first two at least.
