Clearwater Sister Cities, Inc. and Nagano, Japan celebrate 50 years of friendship

On Friday, April 23, Clearwater Sister Cities, Inc. hosted a celebration in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the sister cities relationship with Nagano, Japan. The celebration, held at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort on Clearwater Beach, honored Mayor Shoichi Washizawa and his delegation of 17 officials and citizens from Nagano during their visit to Clearwater.

As a result of this significant milestone, Mayor Washizawa and Mayor Frank Hibbard of Clearwater were presented with proclamations from Sister Cities International recognizing the 50th Anniversary of the Clearwater-Nagano sister cities relationship. The proclamations salutes the citizens of Nagano and Clearwater for achieving 50 years of friendship, and proudly recognizes each city's contribution to citizen diplomacy and continuing to demonstrate Sister Cities International's mission to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding and cooperation - one individual, one community at a time.

Clearwater Sister Cities, Inc. published a commemorative booklet memorializing the 50-year relationship, and dedicated the booklet to the City of Nagano and its many citizens for sharing their culture with the Clearwater community through mutual exchanges.
