Robert (Andy) Burwell, Jr. was recently the surprised recipient of the Alfred P. Marshall Award, the top award presented by the Rotary Club of Clearwater. The award was presented at a regular Wednesday noon meeting at the Belleair Country Club. The emotion of the moment was obvious, as Rotarians and guests rose to their feet in obvious approval of the award, for an individual highly respected in his community.

Alfred P. Marshall was a Charter member of the Rotary Club of Clearwater, and a member for 63 years until his death in 1988. Marshall was a beloved attorney, remembered for his integrity, and he best represented Rotary's Motto, "Service Above Self." Marshall was also a living example of Rotary's Four Way Test: Is it the truth; Is it fair to all concerned; Will it build goodwill and better friendships; Will it be beneficial to all concerned. Many new Rotarians remember the mentoring support provided by "Judge" Marshall. Rotarians address each other by first name, but it was always "Judge."

Kappy (Catherine) Marshall Koch, daughter of Alfred Marshall, was present to see her long-time friend, Andy Burwell, receive the Alfred Marshall Award. Burwell's family was able to witness the presentation, while their presence remained unknown to the recipient of the award.
