Workshop for New Drivers Teaches Teenagers to Increase ResponsibilityOn May 22nd, Honka Automotive Service, in cooperation with Clearwater-based Boy Scout Troop 313, is providing an "open shop" for ages 11 and up who want to learn the secrets of auto maintenance and gain knowledge, not mystery, of how a car really works. An open shop is like an open house, only you drive your car into the shop! According to Randy Meyers, owner of Honka Automotive, "Week after week, we have customers expressing their anxiety about their young drivers taking to the road. These customers have asked for a workshop that helps their kids learn more about what really makes a car work, and increases their responsibility and control of a large and dangerous investment. We decided to put together a presentation and an 'open shop' that will once and for all give teenagers the knowledge they need to be more responsible for the car they are supposed to be controlling! Talking to one of our good customers, Scout Leader Tom Wright, we discovered the Boy Scouts already have a merit badge program that does just that." The workshop will be starting at 9:00 a.m. and will go until 12:00 p.m. Parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, sisters, and brothers are all welcomed, from 11 years and up. No driver's license or car is required, but is recommended. Bring your willingness to learn! All attendees will receive an automotive maintenance guide. Scouts (and others) who want to qualify for the full Automotive Maintenance merit badge will have to plan on two full weekends. People wishing to attend should call Honka Automotive Service during normal business hours (Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) at (727) 446-5096. Space is limited, so early contact is recommended to guarantee a spot. For an entertaining, informative interview, call Randy Meyers at (727) 446-0596 or Tom Wright at (727) 712-3774.
