Pinellas Opera League Sponsors Opera for Youth Project

In a cooperative endeavor, the Pinellas Opera League and the St. Petersburg Opera Company will be working with the students from eight high schools and three middle schools in Pinellas County, introducing them to opera by attending a performance of the highlights of the opera "Carmen."

Students will be bused from their schools to the Palladium in St Petersburg on May 28th at 10:00 a.m. Students will see a special program of "Carmen" highlights produced by Mark Sforzini, Artistic Director of the St. Petersburg Opera Company. Members of the cast in costume will sing arias, and there will be an explanatory narrative by Mark Sforzini. There will also be stage scenery and supra titles in English.

Prior to attending the opera, under the direction of Dick Pioli, the teachers will be given instructional materials with DVD's for a pre-performance presentation in the schools. A questionnaire will be given to the teachers and students at the performance of "Carmen."

Members of the Pinellas Opera League will act as hosts, and Mark and the cast plan to meet with the students after the performance.
