Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

The kids have been doing it for years, now the adults get a chance. It's called the Summer Reading Program, sponsored by the Clearwater Library at each of its branches. The adult program is similar to the one for youngsters. You simply sign up at your branch on June 14th and, for six weeks, read a book a week of your choice. Then you drop by the library each week to report what book you've read and check out a new one. They'll give you a log to record your books, if you like, for your own use. Best of all, each week a name will be drawn from those participating and the prize will be a 410 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble. At the end of the six weeks there will be a drawing for the grand prize of two tickets to a Rays game and dinner at a local restaurant.

For the young people, starting June 15th, there will be story time and crafts on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. at the Beach Library. The first session, on June 15th, will be shell craft for children. Later in the month a special session will feature Mr. John Hanna reading his children's book entitled "Vincent J. Mugs, What If."

When your summer visitors begin to arrive, you'll find indoor, inexpensive entertainment for them right here at the Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center. In fact, the interactive games of tennis, bowling, and baseball, called Wii are ready for you to enjoy every Wednesday at the library. Why not get in some practice now so you can show your guests how this summer. Wii for the youngsters is available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
