Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisOhhhhhh, panic! Summer is here, how will we entertain our kids? Having just enjoyed a week of watching my grandchildren deal with two of my great grandchildren, I understand. They are adorable and lots of fun, but if I had been the only one in charge…whew! They kept their parents…well…occupied! One thing to put on your calendar is the weekly Youth Story Time and Crafts program at the Clearwater Beach Library, planned for Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m., beginning on June 15th. On June 22nd, the craft will be made from seashells. You might also take note that Wii for youngsters ten-year-olds and up will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Youngsters mature enough to use the equipment responsibly need not be accompanied by a parent. Good use of summer times would be to engage one of the Recreation Center's personal trainers to help get yourself into shape or, to be more energetic, take tennis lessons to get you set for a lifetime sport that provides plenty of exercise along with the excitement of placing the ball on your opponents court in exactly the wrong place for him or her. Summer reading or summer videos are also available at our Beach Library, from classics to current best sellers. And there's always our "frog pool" as some folks call it. The only little folks truly safe on Clearwater Beach are the ones who know how to swim and here's a good place to learn. In fact, you will find that the activities provided by our library, rec center, and pool, not to mention tennis courts and basketball court, can provide you and yours with a fun summer right here on Clearwater Beach without fighting the traffic into town.
