Students Honored for Good Acts
Photo by Scott Hale A large crowd of family members, police, Clearwater community leaders, and members of the Rotary Club of Clearwater recently packed the Ross Norton Recreation Center to recognize and honor students from several schools for their Good Acts. Among the audience were Clearwater Council members, the City Manager, and Chief of Police, Anthony Holloway. Good Acts is a program first recommended in 2003 by police Sgt. Ben McBride and then supported by the Police Department, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the Rotary Club of Clearwater. Teachers, mentors, and police officers nominated students from Kindergarten through 8th grade, for performing good deeds, acts of kindness, or making a positive turn-around in school behavior or personal study habits. Each student was called to the front, where they shook hands with police Sgt. McBride, and the Mayor of Clearwater, Frank Hibbard. They were presented with a Certificate of Recognition and a full years membership in all City of Clearwater Recreation Centers, including the North Greenwood Recreation and Aquatic Center and the Ross Norton Extreme Sports Park.
