Area Libraries Offer a Variety of Summer Activities for Youth

CLEARWATER MAIN LIBRARY - Children of all ages are invited to the presentation by the Clearwater Marine Aquarium which will take place on Friday, June 18 at 2 p.m. There will be hands-on materials such as turtle shells and dolphin skulls as well as live critters, including snails and sea urchins ... Advance registration is required for the Junior Literary Camp--a week of fun and games, literary activities and more for second and third graders--which is scheduled June 21-25. Call 562-4970 to reserve a space for your child ... Songs, folktales and contemporary puppet plays will be performed by the Dascaloja Puppeteers at 10:30 a.m. on June 24. This production is geared for ages 6 and up ... Youngsters ages 4 and up can learn to draw cartoons on Friday, June 25. Time? 1 p.m. ... The Eckerd Theater Company will present a play for grades 3 and up at 2 p.m. on June 26 ... Also coming up this month are a program on snakes at 2 p.m. on June 28 and "Celebrate America with Crafts" at 2 p.m. on June 30 ... You can also contact the Clearwater Beach, Clearwater East, Countryside and North Greenwood branch libraries for a list of their activities.

DUNEDIN PUBLIC LIBRARY - Splashy Storytimes, which include stories, fingerplays, music and more, are scheduled on Mondays at 10 a.m. for children up to 18 months; Wednesdays at 10 and 11 a.m. for toddlers 18-36 months; and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. for ages 3-5 ... Making LEGO boats will be fun for ages 5 to 12 on June 23. Time is 4 p.m. ... Youngsters ages 5-12 can wear their favorite beach attire to the Big Beach Bash at 6:30 p.m. on June 30. There will be crafts, songs, games and food. Advance registration is required for this event. Call 298-3080, ext. 240. Registration is also required for Tropical Thursdays events for ages 5-10 ... Elementary age children and their parents are invited to the Freestyle Fridays, which feature local entertainers. Call the number above for more information on these and other upcoming events.

LARGO PUBLIC LIBRARY - Tony the Balloon Guy will perform at 2 p.m. on June 18 ... "Under the Sea" will be the subject of the tales to be told by storyteller Katie Adams at 2 p.m. on June 25 ... Children's "Make a Splash" programs include "Water Babies" on June 22 and 29, 10-10:30 a.m., for ages 0-18 months; "Toddler Tadpoles" on June 23 and 30, 10-11 a.m., for ages 18-36 months; "Pre-K Penguins" on June 17 and 24, 10-11 a.m., for ages 3-5; "Sand Sharks" on June 17 and 24, 3-4 p.m., for ages 6-8; "Wavemakers" on June 18 and 25, 3-4 p.m., for ages 9-12 ....
