Charter Review Commission to Conduct Final Public HearingThe Pinellas County Charter Review Commission (CRC) will conduct its second and final public hearing on Monday, June 28, in Clearwater. The 13-member Charter Review Commission is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners every six years to look at the Pinellas County Charter and discuss areas needing of improvement. The commission comprises four elected officials and nine members of the community. The commission functions as an independent authority with the ability to put charter amendments and referendum questions directly on the November 2010 general election ballot. Any proposed amendments will be outlined in a report to citizens issued by July 31st. Three proposals currently under discussion include 1) stricter requirements in the county's lobbying ordinance, 2) changing the frequency of CRC meetings from every six years to every eight years, and 3) providing that the Pinellas County Charter may be repealed and replaced by referendum of the local electorate. The commission is seeking public input on these proposed amendments and recommendations. A meeting will be held on Monday, June 28, at the Pinellas County Courthouse, Fifth Floor Assembly Room (315 Court St. Clearwater.) The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. Interested parties can call (727) 464-3485 for more information.
