Pinellas County Animal Services Offers Reduced Adoption FeesIt may not be "raining cats and dogs" at Pinellas County Animal Services, but the shelter is brimming with pets ready to move into new homes. To help citizens welcome homeless cats and dogs, a reduced adoption rate of $20 is offered during the Dog Days of Summer. The adoption fee includes a medical work-up with spaying/neutering, vaccination series, internal and external parasite control, heartworm testing, and feline leukemia testing. A required Pinellas County license is also provided. During the months of July and August, $1 rabies vaccinations are available with the purchase of a pet license. The benefits for citizens and pets continue after adoption from the shelter. To help ease the transition, dog owners adopting from Animal Services can take a free Learn the Basics of Dog Training seminar on Saturday, July 10, at 10:00 a.m. Helpful tips and techniques are shared about how to deal with a pet's behaviors such as chewing, jumping, and housebreaking. A certified pet dog trainer and member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers will lead the seminar. This seminar is for humans only - no dogs, please. Those adopting a dog from Animal Services can register for the seminar online at www.pinellascounty.org/animalservices. Wagging tails and purring hearts await at Pinellas County Animal Services adoption center from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The adoption center is closed Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. Also, be sure to check with your local pet store, the SPCA of Tampa Bay, and the Humane Society of Pinellas. They are helping Animal Services find loving homes for shelter animals Animal Services is located at 12450 Ulmerton Road in Largo.
