Recs and Reads

By Anne McKay Garris

Does a vacation in a summer rental cottage really give you the rest and relaxation you need? Next week's movie at the library has a hilarious answer to that question. It's called "Summer Rental" and stars John Candy, Rip Torn, and Bob Wells. You can enjoy the movie, free, at the Clearwater Beach Library on Tuesday, July 6, at 2:00 p.m. Take a bit of time off from your busy summer schedule, call a friend, and enjoy the movie.

Since so many people enjoy coming to Clearwater Beach for their summer vacation, you might find it a great place to have a home vacation yourself. You could start with a swim in our Clearwater Beach pool, which is large and deep enough for real swimming. You could either take tennis lessons, or go indoors and play it on Wii, which is available at the Recreation Center for adults on Wednesdays from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., and young people Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

You can hide out from the chores to be done at home by finding a good book at the library and reading it, settled into one of the comfortable chairs at the library, with the lovely view of the Clearwater Bay to delight you when you look up to rest your eyes.

Or it may be a good time to get started on a new hobby. The writer's encouragement group, which meets on the first and third Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m., has openings for a few new people. If you've ever thought you might want to write, why not get started with the help of caring friends?

Sure, there are places to eat and the beach to walk upon, but the opportunities at the Beach Library and Recreation Center add interest to your home vacation. Call them at (727) 462-6138 for more information.
