Recs and ReadsBy Anne McKay GarrisAnyone for Tai Chi? The Friends of the Clearwater Beach Library and Recreation Center, as well as the Beach Recreation Center personnel, are close to getting a Tai Chi instructor for the center. They need to know who will want to come, so they can plan. Tai Chi, I'm told, is not only good general recreation, but it is gentle and undemanding, smooth and graceful, and very good for supporting our ability to keep our balance. This is important to our mobility as we get older and should be on every older person's list of important things to do. It can cost as little as $3.75 a week, depending on what kind of recreation card you have. Because this is a "contracted activity," meaning that the instructor is paid to do it, the Center needs to know ahead of time how many people are interested and want to try Tai Chi. If you are, please call them at (727) 462-6138 and let them know. Remember, you can lick the "dog days" of August by having that evening dip in the pool. You can join the gang for a refreshing visit, or you can claim the pool for your own pool party. The cost is right, and it covers lifeguards and entertainment for the little ones. And they're still welcoming new writers, or would be writers, on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 3:00 p.m. for the Beach Writers Group meetings.
