Clearwater Campers Took the Field with the Tampa Bay RaysCLEARWATER - A group of City of Clearwater summer campers from the Long Center were chosen to take the field with the Tampa Bay Rays during the game on Thursday, July 29, as part of the opening ceremonies. On that day the Rays were celebrating Florida Recreation and Parks Association Day at Tropicana Field. There were thousands of kids in attendance from summer camps around the Tampa Bay area. "It is a real honor for our kids to be chosen as the 'Baseball Buddies' for the day," said Sandy Clayton, Recreation Program Coordinator for the City of Clearwater. The Baseball Buddies program allows youth to get up-close to their favorite Rays players, feel the excitement, and stand next to them, right on the field, when the national anthem is played.
