The value of the International Affairs Budget

Dear Clearwater Gazette,

*The International Affairs Budget makes up just a little more than 1 percent of the U.S. federal budget. This seemingly insignificant part of the U.S. federal budget makes a world of difference to millions of children and families around the world.

*Just a few of the global challenges addressed through this budget include:

  • Hunger and malnutrition
  • AIDS
  • Malaria
  • Disaster response
  • Peace building
  • Human and religious rights protection

*While economic times are hard here at home, they are even worse in other parts of the world where families struggle to live on dollars a day. Our economic challenges cannot prevent us from caring for those who are suffering.

*A robust budget for these programs demonstrates who we are as Americans-people of hope, compassion, and generosity. There are few parts of the U.S. federal budget where dollars translate so directly into lives saved.

*Join me in telling Congress that you value the critical programs funded by this budget-even when times are tough in our own country. It's the American thing to do.

Sincerely,

Mr. Christopher Benjamin
