
RCS Food Bank Sponsors Back-to-School Food DriveSince October 1, 2009, RCS Food Bank has assisted more than 5000 people each month by providing basic life-supporting staples. As our economic situation has not improved, our community's needs remain very high. The gulf oil spill has complicated the situation with layoffs in tourist dependent industries. To meet the need of thousands of hungry people, RCS Food Bank will be holding a "Back-to-School" Food Drive on August 21, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. People desiring to help may drop off donations of food and money at 700 Druid Road in Clearwater. The RCS Food Bank, the largest distributor of food in Pinellas County, is on track to provide more than $2.5 million in food assistance to families in need this year. The help of the public is greatly needed. With sustained demand, we have little food on our shelves to help those in need. On August 21, you can drive by the RCS Food Bank to deliver food to help those in need. Businesses and civic organizations are encouraged to get a basket from the RCS Food Bank and host a drive at your organization or place of business; just call (727) 443-4031. Pickups and other transportation can be arranged. Fasts facts: Critical food needs: Spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and any kind of baby food (especially Good Start formula, 12 oz.) RCS Food Bank provides supplemental groceries to over 5000 individuals monthly at our distribution warehouse, the majority of those benefiting are children RCS Food Bank distributes food to 50 sub-sites throughout Pinellas County to ensure that food is accessible to those in need, RCS maintains administrative cost below 10%.
