SPCA Tampa Bay Investigators Confiscate Two Emaciated Miniature HorsesTwo emaciated miniature horses were confiscated from a St. Petersburg home on Monday, August 30, by SPCA Tampa Bay investigators and Pinellas County Sheriff's Office deputies. SPCA Tampa Bay investigators received a tip from Pinellas County Animal Services about two horses living in deplorable conditions. Once on scene, investigators saw the disturbing environment: a barren yard and no hay or grain for the horses to feed, a small pan of drinkable water, and a small tarp to protect the animals from the sun and inclement weather. The miniature horses, named Ginger and Kisses, will remain at SPCA Tampa Bay for medical care until further notice. An Equine Veterinarian will visit the shelter this week to determine the health of the animals and the best treatment for them. This is an ongoing investigation, and it will be up to the State Attorney's office to pursue charges against the horses' owner.
