Photo by SANDI FAHY CLEARWATER - The Refresh Cafe opened at the Clearwater Main Library last week. The official opening will take place later this month. A date has not yet been set. Behind the counter you will find a special group of young adults who are eager to serve you. All are students enrolled in the Pinellas County Schools Sanders Extended Transition program. They range in age from 19-22. ESE teacher Deborah Vest and ESE associate teacher Russell Neaman will supervise the running of the concession. Monies earned will be used to pay for program expenses and activities for the group throughout the year. For now, the offerings at the cafe include candy, potato chips, brownies, cookies, pastries and fruit. Bottled beverages are also available. You can purchase a bag of potato chips or Doritos for 85 cents. A brownie costs $1.50. The students hope to expand the menu in the future. The Refresh Cafe is located on the first floor of the library, which is located at 100 North Osceola Avenue. Current hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 2 p.m. on Friday. Call the library at 562-4970 for more information.
