Daughters of Italy Lodge Honors Special Teacher

CLEARWATER - The Daughters of Italy Lodge #2825 (Clearwater chapter of the Order Sons of Italy in America - OSIA) honored Laura Falzone Sherry at the organization's monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 31, in the Cenacle Room at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church (2281 State Road 580, Clearwater.) Sherry, who recently passed a very intense examination in Italian given by the Florida Department of Education, was awarded a special Teacher's Certificate to teach Italian in Florida public schools. This special testing was brought about by the passage of Florida HR Bill 207, which, in effect, amended the current Florida educator certification requirements in foreign languages. Sherry was born in Sicily, but received her formal education in the United States where she has lived for many years. She currently teaches Spanish at East Lake High School in Tarpon Springs.
