BELLEAIR - Members of the Clearwater Chapter of the Military Order of the World Wars gathered at Belleair Country Club on September 7 for lunch and a special program featuring graduates of the 2010 Youth Leadership Conferences, a cooperative education program sponsored by MOWW and supported by the National Sojourners, Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership and Joe Foss Institute.

Each year the Clearwater MOWW sends high school sophomores or juniors who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities to conferences in Florida. The chapter's Patriotic Education Fund pays their expenses. Students attending the Youth Leadership Conference in Tallahassee in May were Tyler Hoyer, Dixie Hollins High School; Jessica Thomas, Boca Ciega High School; Samantha Cali, Dixie Hollins High School; and Alisha Marrero, Boca Ciega High School. Hoyer was honored as Distinguished Student at the conference. He ranked #1 out of 42.

Participants in the conference held in Melbourne in July were Jonathan Arsenault, Kirby Cole and Rebekka Huenke of Clearwater High School; Elise Hollis of Largo High School; Robert Coggin of East Lake High School; Rosa-Felicia Baker, Sarah Mazzeo and Amanda Schmidt of Dunedin High School; Peyton Hay and Anthony Keshish of Boca Ciega High School; and Kyle Postlethwaite and Keosha Morris of Gibbs High School. Postlethwaite won the Distinguished Student award at that conference. He was #1 of 53.

Over 12,000 high school students attend Youth Leadership Conferences throughout the United States each year. Other states in addition to Florida where MOWW hosts conferences are Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The Military Order of the World Wars is a patriotic nonpartisan organization which was established in 1919 to promote the welfare of our nation. The Clearwater chapter is one of over 145 chapters across the country.
