Friends of the Hammock Celebrate Opening of Butterfly Garden

Photos/text by SANDI FAHY

The grand opening of the above pictured butterfly garden at Hammock Park in Dunedin took place on September 18. Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers and members of the city commission were among those taking part in the ribbon cutting ceremony. The garden, which will provide a valuable habitat for native butterflies, was a joint effort of the Friends of the Hammock, Dunedin Parks Department and Eagle Scout Troop 422. The celebration included a live butterfly release, children's crafts, a T-shirt and plant sale as well as tours of the garden, where some 35 species of butterflies can be found.

Members of the Friends of the Hammock show the T-shirts created for the grand opening of the butterfly garden in Hammock Park on September 18. From left, they are Pat Jennings, Ellie Keithly, Donna Moore and Sue Humphreys.
