
City Planner Arrested for Cocaine PossessionBy Carl WagenfohrCLEARWATER - Wayne Wells, employed as a Planner by the City of Clearwater, was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine on September 21st. According to Elizabeth Watts, spokesperson for the Clearwater Police Department, Wells was stopped for a traffic infraction at the intersection of S. Fort Harrison Ave. and Howard Court on August 31st at 12:12 a.m. A small piece of crack cocaine was found inside Wells' vehicle. He was the only occupant of the vehicle at that time. Following an investigation by the State Attorney's Office, Wells was arrested at his home several weeks later. He was released the next day on a $2000 bond. Wells, who pled not guilty, remains employed by the city while awaiting trial. Joe Rosetto, Clearwater's Director of Human Resources, said, "Right now, there's nothing affecting his employment." The city will wait for the criminal case to be adjudicated before determining if any employment action is necessary.
