Clearwater Bombers announces new legacy committee
CLEARWATER – Clearwater’s most famous sports team, Clearwater Bombers, will introduce its World Class Fast Pitch Legacy Committee tonight from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Tiffany’s Restaurant, 35000 U.S. 19 N. in Fountains Plaza. The public is invited.
The social gathering will address the mission of the new organization and its plans, in cooperation with the Clearwater Historical Society, to produce a film, establish a museum and sponsor other projects in honor of the 10-time national men’s fast pitch softball champions.
The Bombers were active from 1940-2000. They won 10 national titles and finished second in eight national competitions. They won more than 4,000 games, placed 24 members in the National Softball Hall of Fame, and appeared in 45 national tournaments, more records than any other fast pitch team.
The team traveled throughout the United States and Canada, and also visited Cuba and Puerto Rico. The men’s national tournament was held 10 times in Clearwater from 1955-1997. The club also helped bring the women’s national to town twice.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase during the meeting.
