Pinellas County commissioners Tuesday appointed Mark Woodard to serve as acting county administrator.
Woodard has worked for the county for almost 26 years, including 13 years as assistant county administrator.
He replaces Bob LaSala, who was fired last week after receiving mediocre evaluations from a majority of commissioners. Commissioners plan to discuss on May 6 how to move forward to find a permanent replacement for LaSala. They may ask the county’s human resources department to conduct the search.
The commission gave permission to Chairwoman Karen Seel to negotiate a new salary for Woodard, 55, who earns $179,608. LaSala earned about $222,000.
Woodard declined the offer of a new contract and said he does not want the car allowance nor an allowance for a deferred retirement fund enjoyed by his predecessor.
