CLEARWATER — The officials at the city’s Moccasin Lake Nature Center have partnered with two local educational environmental organizations to add five new camps to its existing summer camp programs located at the 51-acre Moccasin Lake Nature Park nature preserve.
Grow Permaculture will hold a Nature Awareness Camp at the park the next week, starting Monday, for ages 8 to 12. Campers will experience hands-on nature activities to increase awareness, self-reliance instruction, and survival skills. Fees start at $75.
Sensing Nature will offer four camps:
• Swamps, Marshes and Mucks Wetland Adventure is an exploration of Florida wetlands. The week-long camp begins July 21.
• Florida’s Flying Fauna focuses on flying creatures with a hands-on habitat build. The camp is held the week of July 28.
• Ancient Florida takes campers back to prehistoric Florida when mastodons and giant armadillo roamed, held the week of Aug. 4th.
These three camps are for children ages 7 to 12. Fees start at $112.50.
• The Science & Nature Summer Safari Camp returns offering three one-week camps and includes hiking, hands-on science experiments, and exploring the park. Fees begin at $75. Camps are still available for the weeks of June 30, July 7 and July 14 for ages 6 to 11. Scholarships are available to families who qualify.
