CLEARWATER BEACH — Some 20 beach patrol agencies from around Florida are competing today and Friday at the Southeast Regional Surf Lifesaving Championships, which takes place near Pier 60. The competition is sponsored by the United States Lifesaving Association. Lifeguards are participating in individual and team events such as a surf swim, a rescue board race and sand. Fifteen lifeguards with the city of Clearwater (pictured above) are expected to compete.
