Ranger Naturalist Program introduces students to volunteering at Weedon Island

ST. PETERSBURG — High school students who yearn to learn about the environment and earn Bright Futures volunteer hours can check out the Ranger Naturalist Program at Weedon Island Preserve.

The program runs June 13 through Aug. 8 and introduces high school students to the wonders of Weedon Island in St. Petersburg. Students will be scheduled to volunteer at Weedon Island Preserve from 12 to 16 hours per week. The program days are set for Thursdays and Fridays, with some Saturday commitments required. The program will not be held the week of Independence Day.

All volunteers will be trained to assist guests that are visiting the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center and trails, as well as develop individual projects that support the mission of the center.

Applications for the program must be received by May 30, and students will be notified of their acceptance into the program by June 6.

To register for the program or to get more information, visit or contact Libby Carnahan at or (727) 453-6522.
